Telesp Celular, Telefonica Celular prepare to unify billing

Telesp Celular, a subsidiary of Portugal Telecom (PT), and Telefonica Celular are studying proposals from Convergys and Amdocs, as well as a solution developed in-house by Telefonica, to unify their billing platforms in preparation for the joint venture between PT and Telefonica Moviles. It will be a complex operation because after privatization Telesp Celular installed a Convergys billing platform, whereas Global Telecom uses Amdocs, and Telefonica has several different systems inherited from the pre-privatization era. The cost of the transition hasn?t yet been computed. The mega-operator resulting from the joint venture will cover the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Bahia and Sergipe. The two companies also plan to set up a nationwide network based on acquisitions, partnerships or the purchase of available PCS frequencies.
