The board of Anatel was supposed to decide Wednesday, September 4, on the legality of Telecom Italia?s sale to Opportunity of part of its holding in Brasil Telecom but postponed a vote until next Wednesday, September 11. A sworn translation of certain documents failed to arrive in time for the meeting. Anatel?s legal department must analyze the documentation and issue an opinion, so the board opted for postponement. A decision is certain next week since all the translations required have now been filed. Meanwhile, TIM will have to wait a little longer for permission to start delivering its nationwide PCS service. Anatel hasn?t shown any signs of considering the transfer of control in Brasil Telecom irregular. However, other telcos believe it wasn?t regular and are considering legal action.
