Only two companies have submitted bids for Brazil?s auction of three satellite orbital positions: Hispamar, a consortium of Hispasat and Telemar; and Star One, a subsidiary of Embratel. Bids and qualifying documentation were delivered Wednesday, September 18. Envelopes for the first position will be opened Tuesday, September 24. The minimum price of each position is 3.34 million Brazilian Reals. The highest bidder will be entitled to choose among the three positions. Rebids will be allowed if the difference between bids is 20% or less. No bidder can acquire more than two positions.
