Telefonica has acquired the assets and contracts of IP Comutado and the services of Speedy Link from Telefonica Empresas for 143.9 million Brazilian Reals. IP Comutado comprises services and the structure of dialup connection to the Internet for IP telephony, while Speedy Link serves broadband ISPs. According to a formal notice addressed to CVM, Brazil?s securities and exchange regulator, Telefonica retained independent accountants KPMG to determine the acquisition price. Telefonica has also applied to Anatel for a license to offer Multimedia Communication Service (Portuguese-language acronym SCM) so that it can operate these services directly. Telefonica Empresas, the corporate services division, says the services have a ?retail profile? because they target large numbers of individual consumers rather than a few large corporate customers. Other services provided by Telefonica Empresas include IP packet switching, outsourcing, and advanced solutions such as platform integration or Web applications.
