Anatel is to blame for the local carriers? monopoly (more than 97%), Communications Minister Miro Teixeira said in São Paulo Tuesday, March 25. ?The monopoly is against the law and it is simply astounding that I should have to say we?re fighting it. It?s all the fault of Anatel,? he said in his opening address at Telexpo 2003.
He went on to say that telcos are complaining sorely of Anatel?s slowness to issue rules on unbundling. The industry sees this as preventing competition in practice. He cited GVT as an example. The CLEC contacted him to say it won?t invest any more until it?s sure about the conditions for competition, he reported.
