GVT ends 2002 with 500,000 customers

According to a report released by GVT on Thursday, December 18, the CLEC now has 500,000 lines in service, double the amount it had at the end of 2001. Its installed capacity is 960,000 lines, well over the targeted 630,000 under the terms of the license granted by Anatel. Operating revenue totaled 400 million Brazilian Reals in 2002 and is set to reach 700m BRL next year. Twenty per cent of GVT?s customers are corporate subscribers. It has 5,000 customers with ADSL lines. GVT offers high-speed service in nine cities and sells 1,000 ADSL lines per month on average. The company has invested 3.6bn BRL since it entered the local exchange market, 1.1bn BRL this year alone, and plans to invest some 800m BRL in 2003. Carlos Alberto Nunes, vice president for regulatory affairs, says GVT has achieved strong results thanks to a conservative investment strategy and a service offering that?s clearly different from that of the incumbent LEC.
