Telecom Americas concludes agreement with BCP, TIM Brazil

Seasoned observers say there?s no longer any doubt that Telecom Americas has concluded site-sharing agreements with BCP, the B-band cellular operator for metropolitan São Paulo, and TIM Brazil, whose wireless network covers the entire country. None of the companies involved has confirmed the truth of this opinion. Sources believe the agreements will enable the consortium to speed up GSM buildout using the D- and E-band PCS licenses acquired late last year for metropolitan São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Bahia, and Sergipe. In the case of TIM, Telecom Americas is expected to offer in exchange to share sites belonging to Tess, the B-band carrier for the rest of São Paulo State, enabling the Italian-owned giant to expand its coverage more easily in this market, where it launched its GSM operation in July 2002.
