Analyst sees BrT?s goals as ?overoptimistic?

Brasil Telecom?s goals for its new wireless operation announced by Carla Cico during a conference call on Wednesday, August 6, are ?overoptimistic? according to an analyst with one of the most active brokerage houses in the sector. Ms Cico, who is BrT?s chief executive officer, said the telco will invest at most 300 million US Dollars in wireless infrastructure over the next two years and aims to sign up 1m customers in the first 12 months of operations for an acquisition cost of 220 Brazilian Reals per customer (now just over 70 USD) in the first year and an average of 160 BRL per customer in three years. Prepaid customers will account for 70% of the total.
?Brasil Telecom is a strong channel with excellent standing in the markets where it already operates but it will enter those markets as the fourth wireless carrier facing strong competitors who are already there,? the analyst noted. The other three are Vivo (PT/Telefonica), Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM), and Telecom Americas.
