Telecom Americas, which controls ATL, Americel, Claro/Telet, Tess, and BSE/BCP Nordeste, grew revenue 29.3% to 1.3 billion Brazilian Reals in the first half of this year, according to financial statements released by America Movil, its parent.
At the end of June Telecom Americas had 6.7 million customers, making it the second-largest mobile carrier in Brazil. It?s still a long way behind front-runner Vivo, which has 17m customers according to its latest financial report. Telecom Italia Mobile is third with 5.7m.
The expansion of Telecom Americas? customer base reflects the acquisition of BSE, with 1m subscribers, and the signing up of 365,000 new customers by the consortium?s other operators. Prepaid accounted for 5.5m customers at the end of June. Average revenue per user was 91 BRL for post-paid and 20 BRL for prepaid.
