Telemar?s PCS service, Oi, will have 1 million users by the end of this year, predicts CFO Francisco Valim, judging by faster-than-expected growth in the customer base since it launched commercial service three months ago. At the end of September it had 500,000 customers. Net revenue totaled 152 million Brazilian Reals in the first three months of operations. EBITDA was minus 175m BRL and the result was a net loss of 350m BRL. Average revenue per user (ARPU) was 36 BRL. Mr Valim declined to give a clear answer when asked whether Telemar will bid in the auction of PCS leftovers (D and E bands), but said the telco is carefully watching what goes on. It isn?t interested in new projects that require more heavy investment like Oi, he stressed.
