Anatel has approved increases in local and long-distance telephone tariffs for the public switched telephone network (PSTN) between now and June 2003. A notice has been published in all major national and regional newspapers. The average increase is 8.7%, compared with 9.4% inflation in the 12 months ending June 22, as measured by FGV?s general price index (IGP-DI). The following ?reduction factors? were applied for productivity, in accordance with law: 1% in local service, 4% in domestic long-distance, and 15% in international. Hence local and domestic long-distance rates increase 8.3% and 5.2% on average, while international rates decrease 7.01%.
