Telemig Celular considers alliances with other carriers

João Cox, president of Telemig Celular and Amazônia Celular, says nationwide coverage depends more on pricing than establishing a footprint throughout the country. In line with this premise, he explains, Telemig is considering alliances similar to the existing agreement with CTBC Celular whereby subscribers to both carriers pay the same prices for calls to one or the other area. It should be possible to work out agreements of this kind for the country as a whole, he believes, and indeed talks are under way with other players to explore the possibility.

No sale

João Cox refuses to comment on rumors that the entire Telemig/Amazônia operation is up for sale and says there?s no truth in speculation that Telemig aims to acquire CTBC Celular.

It?s worth recalling that Telecom Americas and Vivo have an interest in acquiring Telemig, since neither has a license to operate in Minas Gerais. The only PCS license for the state was acquired by Vesper.
