Future of TCO in doubt

Mário César Araújo, president of TCO, says Splice hasn?t made up its mind about the future of the company, i.e. whether to sell, merge with an acquisition or seek strategic alliances to boost profitability. Opportunities for partnership exist in both CDMA and GSM, he says, including joint purchasing of equipment and handsets. He expects negotiations on the future of TCO/NBT to include a solution for Splice?s debt. ?This debt has never done TCO any harm,? he says. ?So much so that at the time we made the loan to Splice our stock was trading at around 2 Brazilian Reals and it?s now on 4 BRL. TCO invests to enhance its efficiency. The controlling shareholder?s position is that whatever decision is taken mustn?t jeopardize the operation, its results, and relationships with customers.?
