Vivo is analyzing new ways of charging prepaid customers. According to information circulating in the market but not confirmed by the Portugal Telecom/Telefonica joint venture, one way would be to issue so-called virtual cards, whereby mobiles can be recharged at point-of-sales terminals for credit cards. Other possibilities acknowledged by Vivo include distribution of prepaid cards to Telesp Celular and Global Telecom subscribers. Like Portugal Telecom, these operators have hitherto used only electronic recharging systems via ATMs, the Internet or dedicated terminals. On the other hand, operators originally affiliated with Telefonica, which use only prepaid cards, will adopt electronic systems.
