Telefonica began Wednesday, July 3, delivering domestic long-distance service out of São Paulo State, where it operates as the incumbent local exchange carrier. Anatel?s authorization was published July 2 in the Federal Register (Diário Oficial da União). Telefonica has been delivering international service since May 7. It was prevented from operating domestic service by an injunction awarded to Embratel, the incumbent long-distance carrier. A press release issued by Telefonica says a massive advertising campaign will inform users throughout the state that the service is now available.
