José Luis de Souza quits Tess

José Luís de Souza is stepping down as president of Tess, according to Carlos Henrique Moreira, CEO of Telecom Americas. Tess is a member company of the group. Rumors of his departure had been circulating for some time, as reported in TELETIME News. The decision has only now been announced because he was on vacation in September. Marketing Director Eduardo Giestas is taking his place provisionally. Mr Moreira said a decision hasn?t been taken yet on appointment of a substitute.

Restructuring

Market sources say the departures of José Luís de Souza from Tess and Brian Schicker from Americel and Claro Digital, also member companies of Telecom Americas, relate to group restructuring and consolidation ahead of the planned migration to PCS. Mr Schicker moved to Vésper, where he?s VP of the consumer business unit. However, Carlos Henrique Moreira rebuts this interpretation: both executives left for personal reasons, he insists. The same sources expect Mexico?s Rogélio Viesca to become the group?s chief operating officer once consolidation is complete. He?s been in Brazil for a few months, having transferred from América Móvil, the Mexican telco that?s taking over control of Telecom Americas.
