Jarbas Valente, Anatel?s head of private services, confirmed Thursday, August 22, that Vésper can acquire a license for D or E band and use the 1900 MHz frequency band to provide PCS wireless service. Vésper is currently licensed to operate as a competitive local exchange carrier. The law allows secondary use of this band for PCS but within 12 months the service must also be provided at 1800 MHz. In fact, he added, the service can then be provided simultaneously on both bands. Four telcos, both fixed-line and mobile, have expressed an interest in the auction of D and E band leftovers, he said.
