Intelig has confirmed the dismissal of around 200 employees ? 20% of the workforce ? on Tuesday, July 23. It says the layoffs are part of a business restructuring process. From now on Intelig will focus on four segments: long-distance voice, IP solutions, large corporations, and carriers. This strategy shift means it won?t be offering other telecoms services such as frame relay. ?We want to focus on segments where we?re strong and competitive,? says CEO José Carlos Cunha, stressing that contracts in force will be fulfilled until expiration and may even be renewed but there won?t be any efforts to sell the solution to other customers.
Smaller sales force
The sales force is most affected by the layoffs, since Intelig has decided to all but stop selling direct. ?Our sales reps handled about ten corporate accounts each, compared with 50 per rep as an industry average,? says José Carlos Cunha. Other sales channels to play a more important role from now on include specialist agents and resellers.
