Lawyers for Telefonica issued a harshly worded statement amounting to a declaration of war on the Communications Ministry and the Government?s new telecommunications policy including proposals to change the terms of the ILECs? licenses.
The statement, signed by Carlos Ari Sundfeld and the Manesco, Ramires, Perez, Azevedo Marques law firm, labels the draft decree illegal and a ?violation of local telephone companies? right to maintain economic and financial equilibrium as established in the original contract?.
The statement says the decree also ?violates their right to an extension at the time and in the form specified in the current license, as already confirmed by public consultation?.
According to Eduardo Navarro, vice president for corporate strategy and regulatory affairs, Telefonica reserves the right to ?present additional comments and take appropriate measures to defend our interests and rights?.
